Local Farm Aid featuring Jim Hightower

Jim Hightower. Local Food. Live Music.

Please Note: Venue has been changed to Rudder 601 (map)

May 5th 5:00pm: Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to meet and listen to Jim Hightower, enjoy local food from area farmers, and kick back with live music.

We do not know where our food comes from and we are not doing anything about it. We live in a time where the system has gone awry. Our children’s lunches are being marshaled in our schools. When a child can’t eat a PB&J sandwich, something has gone wrong. Who are we as Texans when we cannot grill a steak or eat chips and salsa because we don’t know where it’s from or what’s in it?

We need to support farmers, not agribusiness. There was a time when Texans could do important business on a handshake. Feeding our families is important business and you cannot shake a corporation’s hand. Last time I checked Chiquita bananas aren’t grown in TX, so why are they sold at the on-campus Farmers’ market for the nation’s premiere agriculture university? Farmers here are losing their land and mortgaging their lives.

If we’re going to secede or succeed, we’re gonna damn sure need our local farmers!

Tuesday, May 5th, at the on-campus, we are having Texas’s own Jim Hightower, the nation’s most famous populist, come speak about sustainable agriculture and sign his books while students connect you with real produce from real Texas farmers, the whole time enjoying some live music from local musicians!

  1. Is Hightower going to be at the Community Garden or the Holistic Gardens? There are conflicting Press Releases.
