The interaction and response was amazing; thanks to all for working hard to set this up.

The ASE and Community Garden table was rocking with hundreds of people stopping by, and pages of new contacts. Awesome job!

Arts/Crafts table: AMAZING! Everyone (students, administration, young, old, girls, boys, etc.) were drawn into the great work of all the artists and crafters. It definitely stopped all in their tracks.

Endless lines for free bicycle tune-ups; I don’t know how Maroon Bike managed to keep up. It seems like they tuned-up all of A&M.

Also, a big thanks to all participating organizations/departments/bands/speakers/artists (photography, fashion)/farmers.

But wait! We have one more event…

Free Screening of the 11th hour on Thursday/ October 23/ Koldus 111/ 7:30-10:00 p.m.

“This is a great environmental documentary narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio. The film includes interviews with Nobel Prize recipients, social entrepreneurs like Paul Hawken!, and sustainability leaders (e.g. David Orr). It is a tremendous movie, the event link:”

http://www.facebook.com/inbox/#/event.php?eid=248266460000&ref=mf

Join us tonight to learn more about why/how we can help further sustainability on campus!

*The 6th annual National Campus Sustainability was the first for A&M and I believe we have already caught up to the rest of the nation with this one. All members of the Association for Social Entrepreneurship, the Sustainability Council, and Kelly Wellman, our Sustainability Officer just pulled off one of the most tremendous undertakings for progress on this campus. Incredible!

I hope everyone’s day is great. Tonight we will be having the ASE general meeting at 8:30pm in MSC 229. Several important items concerning Campus Sustainability Day will be discussed.

We will be creating tie dye t-shirts for the event. This Saturday, October 4 at 2pm everyone needs to meet at Nicole’s place. She is located at College Main and Louise, look for brown cabins. Bring a white shirt, tie dyeing will be going down, and eventually stenciling too.

If you cannot make it this Saturday, please bring a white shirt to tonight’s meeting if you want to have one made.

Also, if you are coming out on Saturday, please RSVP to Nicole Boriski (phizzycola@yahoo.com) so she can have an idea of supplies needed; running out of dye won’t be good.

At next Tuesday’s Sustainability Council meeting (October 7 @ 8:30pm, MSC 229) we will have some guests present their ideas to help with promotion. Then afterwards, or concurrently (we may break into two groups) we hope to be painting in the banner room. So come on time and be prepared to listen and paint. It will be fun!

Several members have already been sending out general invitations to groups to attend (not participate but be attendees). I need several of you to volunteer to send out more.

Please go to http://studentactivities.tamu.edu/online/search/index.

Choose a category of organizations, see those already taken below.

Email me the category you have chosen, choosing several is smiled upon

Download this document, open and fill in the blanks with the respected information for each organization within the category.

Copy, paste the invite as the main body of the email, then send. Below is what has been taken:

Nicole: social/political; education

Erin: Campus Service

Kelley: spirit/tradition, liberal arts, fraternities/sororities

Continue compiling craft ideas and instructions

Begin compiling your favorite quotes, factoids, statistics, books, and resources that we want included in our sustainability pamphlets.

I appreciate you reading this and I hope to see you all tonight at 8:30pm. Good luck on exams!

All Member Meeting:

Tuesday/ September 30th/ MSC 229/ 8:30-9:45 p.m.

(Bring white t-shirts b/c we will stencil shirts for Sustainability Day.)

Social Entrepreneurship has the ability to empower communities, foster a sense of place, and unite individuals over party lines, ideological stances, and backgrounds. We are working with some great community leaders here in Brazos Valley and this e-mail will speak to that.

*This Sunday/ September 28th/ 7:00 p.m./ meeting for sustainability/ Location: 1104 Milner College Station/ Bring laptops, paint, and shirts.

*Also, the Tuesday of the all member meeting everyone is encourage to attend the talk with Steve Burcu the founder of Book People. He will be speaking at the Mays Business School. Burcu has a bachelor’s in history from the University of Texas, a master’s in International Relations from the International College in Copenhagen, and a juris doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law. This man has done an incredible amount for the community and has encouraged local business, arts, and nonprofits. Although we usually concentrate on social entrepreneurship in the context of nonprofits this is a unique opportunity to see a social entrepreneur operating in several spheres. Leading the fight for localism against monster entities like WalMart is social entrepreneurship to the hilt. This event is being sponsored by the Brazos Independent Business Alliance. The President of BIBA also happens to be integrally involved in many endeavors in the city and he is also the founder of!
the
Stearn’s Design Build the green building firm in town and he is also one of the key note speakers of Sustainability Day.

*The event is Tuesday/ September 30th/ 7:00 p.m./ Wehner Building room 162

October 1st- Active Citizenship Day Rudder Plaza 11:00-1:00 p.m.

*October 3rd- Social Entrepreneurship is sponsoring the “Courteous Mass.” A bike ride from the Prominade at North Gate to Downtown Bryan for First Friday (a celebration of local art, cuisine, and community). Also, at First Friday we will have tables for the Community Garden, Maroon Bike Project, Sustainability Day, and ASE. It is an honor that the City of Bryan would think highly enough of us to be involved in the first “Green First Friday.” Following our sponsored bike ride and First Friday art loitering we will be engaging in some Guerilla Gardening.

*October 21- Sustainability Day.

We have many things in the works. Including an International Travel initiative to work on Sustainable Development in a Developing Country. The trip is being planned for next Summer. The Community Garden is being planted. Maroon Bike Project is doing great. Donations to the Brazos Valley Food Bank are being planned by members of the Garden. As always we support other social entrepreneurs in BCS and encourage everyone to attend the event with Steve Burcu, the food insecure pot lucks at Neal Park, and First Friday courtesy of community groups, independent businesses and the City of Bryan.

Together, by working together, we have the ability to transform our communities.

Cheers,

Andrew

Maroon Bike Project
Campus Community Garden

There are many more groups in the works. We have the opportunity of doing some international things as well. Very exciting!
We have held off on the teach-in schedule, waiting for new members in a new year and see what all of us would be interested in. We had enormous support at open house. It should be a great meeting.

Cheers,
