Hola!

Our first meeting of the semester will be February 5th at 7pm in MSC 231. Please bring an open mind, a willingness to get involved, and your ideas on how to make an impact on this campus and/or the Bryan/College Station community.

  • APR 30: Final meeting- MSC 027

Those are a lot of dates. We strongly recommend that you attend the meetings, and encourage you to make time for the free movie screenings and teach ins. It will be worth your while.

During the meetings, we will have opportunities for you to get involved with one of our ongoing projects, or step forth with an idea of your own. Remember, the projects that exist now started out as someone’s ideas, and we encourage all of you to write down the ideas you have the next time you think “it would be nice if…” or “we should really…”

The free movie screenings will be our chance to show you independent films, documentaries, and movies that create an atmosphere of change, inspire, and provoke discussion. If you have a suggestion for a film that you think is worth watching, please don’t hesitate to send us an e-mail.

During the teach ins, we will have the chance to bring in members of the community to speak to you about many different subjects ranging from micro-credit/micro-finance to sustainable agriculture practices. Hopefully, this can be a chance to learn something new, to incite a sense of community, and to promote personal responsibility.

Hope to see you at the next meeting!

Sustainability Week Continues…

Texas A&M’s first ever Campus Sustainability Day was a huge success!

  • The interaction and response was amazing; thanks to all for working hard to set this up.
  • The ASE and Community Garden table was rocking with hundreds of people stopping by, and pages of new contacts. Awesome job!
  • Arts/Crafts table: AMAZING! Everyone (students, administration, young, old, girls, boys, etc.) were drawn into the great work of all the artists and crafters. It definitely stopped all in their tracks.
  • Endless lines for free bicycle tune-ups; I don’t know how Maroon Bike managed to keep up. It seems like they tuned-up all of A&M.
  • Also, a big thanks to all participating organizations/departments/bands/speakers/artists (photography, fashion)/farmers.

But wait! We have one more event…

 Free Screening of the 11th hour on Thursday/ October 23/ Koldus 111/ 7:30-10:00 p.m.

“This is a great environmental documentary narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio. The film includes interviews with Nobel Prize recipients, social entrepreneurs like Paul Hawken!, and sustainability leaders (e.g. David Orr). It is a tremendous movie, the event link:”

Join us tonight to learn more about why/how we can help further sustainability on campus!

*The 6th annual National Campus Sustainability was the first for A&M and I believe we have already caught up to the rest of the nation with this one. All members of the Association for Social Entrepreneurship, the Sustainability Council, and Kelly Wellman, our Sustainability Officer just pulled off one of the most tremendous undertakings for progress on this campus. Incredible!
